EDFN 365 Bernoulli’s Lesson Plan

Curriculum Area

 Math and Physics

Subject Area

Bernoulli’s Equation and Principles

Lesson Title

Taking Flight with Bernoulli’s Principle

Suggested Grade Level(s)

10-12

Equipment Needed

Technology: A computer for all of the students is needed along with internet access and speakers. Also teacher will need a television monitor connected to a computer.

Software: Cleared for Takeoff Lab2a along with Windows Media Player which plays the video. Microsoft Word will be needed for the equations and paper write-up.

Other: Student will need a calculator along with a math book if the student does not excel with algebra manipulations.

Focus Question

How does Bernoulli’s Principle and Newton’s 3rd Law affect the flight of an airplane?

Learning Objectives

 1. Must be able to understand how Bernoulli’s allows for air speed and pressure over a wing.

2. Understand how Newton’s 3rd Law applies to lift.

3. Understand how to manipulate Bernoulli’s equation given different values for variables.

Instructions

The teacher must briefly introduce airplanes and see the interest from the class of airplane flight. The teacher must address Bernoulli’s Principle and how vital it is to plane flight. Then the teacher will play the Cleared for Takeoff Lab 2a in the computer which will further explain Bernoulli’s Principle. Then the teacher will address the importance of Newton’s 3rd Law using different models.

The teacher will hand out a rubric of the paper that will need to be completed once the students complete the webquest. The students will be directed to the site where the webquest exists. The teacher must tell them the due date and allow the students to explore the web and research Bernoulli’s and Newton’s 3rd Law.

Evaluation of Content

The rubric the teacher distributes to the students will be used to evaluate the student’s paper.

Evaluation of Curriculum Integration

Teacher will notice how well the student used the internet sources in order to gather information and be able to process the information to form a paper.

Integration with other disciplines
