General News

Last night, I got to wondering, would somebody watching Pirates of the Carribean on the East Coast get as much out of it as those of us from Southern California?  I mean, would they get inside jokes such as the prisoners trying to lure to dog who has the keys in his mouth to them with the use of a bone and a rope tied into a noose? "You can do that forever, that dog's never going to move."  34 years and counting.  Or the use of the song "Yo ho yo ho a pirate's life for me?"  Or (and this took a while for us to catch on to this) the fireflies in the beginning as the main title comes up?  Just like the fireflies at the beginning of the attraction at the bayou?  This movie is filled with references that only somebody who had been on the attraction would understand.  Unless (and you know who you are)  you're just going to watch Orlando Bloom, seeing as his name got such a huge burst of applause in the theater I went to watch it in at the end credits.

I went to this little bookstore about nine o'clock last night, it's called the Iliad Bookstore, right next to Odyssey Video, get it?  And my dad was looking for a particular book, because its final showdown took place in front of the redhead in Pirates of the Carribean.  They have a lot of movie scripts,  and there was one in particular I wanted, and the guy at the counter said I could have it free if I bought something.  My dad found it hard not to take him up on this offer, seeing as there was a script for The Majestic, written by a good friend of his, but we bought a paperback of Jurassic Park.  That's a great bookstore.
