General News

Well, here it is, ladies and gentlemen, the forty-eighth birthday of DIsneyland.  I will, of course, be there unaccompanied except for my immediate family.  :-(  But it's still going to be a lot of fun.  People from a disney message board site called MousePlanet plan to meet there at noon.  My dad's deciding whether or not to go or as far away as possible from the White Rabbit, no offense meant to MousePlanet people.

Yesterday at Frank's about 7:30, as I was leaving, this old man sitting behind us beckoned me, and he told my family about how when I walked in the door (being 6'3") he reminded me of a young Don Drysdale.  Gotta remember to ask Dale how to spell that.  Anyway, he told this really funny story of playing with Drysdale when he was fourteen, and how Drysdale's father asked him to catch for Don for a while.  He figured okay, so he came into the plate using an infielder's glove.  Don's father, Scotty, recommended that he change gloves, but the man said that he was okay.  "Okay, I warned you," Scotty said. So, the man got ready and Don threw the pitch.  He threw the ball, and it made contact with the glove.  And kept going.  It literally took the glove off  his hand and sent it and the ball flying off into the stands. The guy's astounded.  "That must have been at least eighty miles an hour."  "Yeah, we clocked him at ninety-two the other day."  Now, you must remember that Drysdale's fourteen and he could pitch as well as many Major League players today.  And, that's how I reminded one person of a young Don Drysdale.
