-Raos, Elven Priest of Halios-

-Addressing a Night Elf Gathering-

"Elune is like a mother to us all, this is true, but if she is our Mother then we must ask after our Father.

What good child will ignore the one, and embrace only the other?

We have a Father, Halios is his name, and it is time you knew of him.

When Azeroth was new and raw, before the coming of life or the coming of the Titans, there was only the sun and stars above the world. Halios, the young sun, watched over his world closely; ignited its inner flame, brightened its darkened corners, protected it from wayward dangers.

Then came a time, long after the surface had cooled and life had taken hold on the world, that Halios noticed a stranger had joined in his vigil. Though she was still as stone, he could see by the way she stirred and glowed under his gaze that there was power there. Hoping to wake her further, he took the stranger down to the world and submerged her in the vast waters that had formed on its surface.

Curiousity over where she might have come from, or what link she might have to his corner of creation, was quickly forgotten as her power and beauty unfolded before him. The waters gave movement once more to the stranger's energies, and at that moment they were bound forever to her, just as the watching Halios was drawn to her silvery form. Her name, he instantly knew, was Elune and she was just as drawn to his gold embrace as he was to her cold breast.

Their love shook the world once again, wild energies spilling from their pairing as mountains found new shape; passion that would destroy mortals and power that would awe the Titans themselves took hold of young Azeroth.

When the lovers ceased their affair, though, they quickly became aware of what they had done.

Halios was shocked to see the chaos that their contact had caused, and though she was new to the world Elune felt so close a bond to the seas that even she could feel the changes. Creatures that would one day be Old Gods and Elementals now roamed the lands, while entire lines of mortal beasts had been born and died. Powers surged through the life-force of the world.

Halios and Elune knew then, as the damage their union had done became clear, that they could never again touch. Deciding quickly what must be done to protect the world they now shared, they concluded that they would split their time over Azeroth equally; when Halios had the sky Elune would sleep in her favored waters, and when Elune walked her path Halios would rest in the core of the world to keep its fires stoked.

They parted ways, a glance between them, knowing that from that moment they would only ever brush at twilight, a time known even now for its power and danger.

Content to merely watch for some time, even during the coming of the Titans, the two silently made their circuits across the lands and seas.

Halios felt that the Titans were meddlers, using too firm a hand in their quest for order; the damage he had accidentally and so easily caused millenia before still made him wary of sweeping change. He could sense, though, that they had good intentions and did not interfere in their efforts.

Elune, more eager to have influence as a result of her closer to the world itself, arranged to have a large amount of her essence concentrated in one place so as to have a more comfortable resting place.

When the Titans had finished their work and gone on their way, leaving some of their power to the Dragons, Elune found that certain creatures had began to gather at her favored waters. The story of what happened to those creatures, and others who drank to deeply at the well of a power beyond their strength, is well known.

Halios, however, was not idle during that time or during the battles that followed. Not feeling a need at the time to take a people of his own, the Father Sun watched for champions in the world, those of strength or courage or perseverance, and lit flames in their hearts that led them to seek out adventure and trials. He guided, tested, and rewarded those who proved worthy in his own way.

Always a gentle touch, always a Father's trust that interfering too much when not necessary can only make things worse, even when it looked like doing so could be the end of all life on his world. Life went on.

The strong survived the flames of the so-called Burning Legion, and even when those too weak to go on without the kiss Elune's power claimed to embrace the ways of the sun Halios was able to find a few worthy servants among their ranks.

Now, though, there are changes coming to Azeroth again. Some of the world's peoples are threatening to make the same mistakes that have damned them a thousand times, and powers that Halios himself cannot keep away if they are welcomed gladly are looming at the edges of reality once more.

It is time.

Halios, your Father, has need of a people. He looks for champions that can face the heat of adversity and the harsh light of change. Protectors of an entire world are being called, and even we of the night can step into the day.

Will you, can you, do his will?"
