Formation:
This is one of the simplest tenses to learn in French!

One, it is a simple tense, which means that it consists of one word.

Two, the endings are the same for all of the verbs, regular or irregular.

Three, it is easy to tell a future stem because it always ends in R

The future tense is formed as follows:

Future stem + future endings

All verbs have the same set of endings in the future tense:

-ai	-ons
-as	-ez
-a	-ont

For all regular verbs and many irregular verbs:

Future stem = infinitive (minus final –e, if any)

Don’t forget: For all verbs, the future stem ends in R

Elle va passer son permis de conduire en juin. à Elle le passera.

Tu comptes trouver un travail près de sa maison. à Tu trouveras un travail près de la maison.

Nous aimons assister aux concerts. à Nous assisterons à un concert la semaine prochaine.

Vous rendez visite à vos grand-parents tous les ans. à Vous rendrez visite à vos grand-parents en août.

Ils détestent lire les livres ennuyants. à Ils ne liront pas le roman d’histoire pendant les grandes vacances.

The future is used to talk about an action that will take place. This is the same as in English. However, it is important to remember that when you use certain conjunctions to talk about the future, you need to use the future in French, yet in English, we use the present.

When you see my new convertible, you will be jealous

Lorsque vous aurez votre permis de conduire, vous devrez chercher un travail pour payer les frais de posséder une voiture.

When you have your license, you will have to find a job to pay the costs of owning a car.

Dès que tu chercheras ta valise, tu passeras par la douane.

As soon as you get your suitcase, you will go through customs.

Aussitôt que je finirai mes études, mes grand-parents me donneront un voyage autour du monde!

As soon as I finish school, my grand-parents will give me a trip around the world.

Tant qu’il neigera, je ne pourrai pas passer mon permis de conduire.

As long as it snows, I will not be able to get my driver’s license.

Après qu’ils ne seront plus au chômage, ils pourront acheter une maison.

After they are no longer unemployed, they will be able to buy a house.
