Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834-1892) is one of the best ministers of all time. In 1850, he joined with the Baptists and soon began to preach in various places. He became pastor of a Baptist church in Waterbeach in 1851. 3 years later he was called to the decaying Park Street Church, London. Within a short time, the work began to prosper, a new church was built and dedicated in 1861, and Spurgeon became London's most popular preacher. In 1855, he began to publish his sermons; and today they make up the fifty-seven volumes of The Metropolitan Tabernacle Pulpit. He founded a pastor's college and several orphanages.
