Transition Lesson Plan "Wh" Questions By Jennifer Calpin Lesson Objectives: 11th grade students will: 1. Seek information by using appropriate “wh” questions. 2. Respond appropriately to “wh” questions. Sunshine State Standards: (LA.C.1.4) – The student uses listening strategies effectively. (LA.C.3.4) – The student uses speaking strategies effectively. Methods and Materials: Materials: - “mock” interview questions - role play situation Estimated # of days to complete: 1 day Lesson Procedures: 1. Introduce importance of asking and answering questions appropriately in daily “life” situations. 2. Discuss questions that would be appropriate in interview situation. 3. Create “mock” interview by role-playing with given questions. 4. Have students pair off and take turns being interviewer/interviewee. 5. Greet appropriately using body language, eye contact, hand shake. 6. Have students come up to the front of the room with their partners. 7. Role play interview in front of class. 8. After role play is finished, have students write down four or five possible interview questions they would ask and tell how they would answer them. 9. Have students do group activity by having them share questions and appropriate answers with class. 10. Wrap up. Application of Lesson to Interests and/or Real Life: Explain to students that as adults we are often put in situations where we need or desire more information. This lesson will help them begin to understand how getting information through asking wh-questions can help them gain the information they need. (For example: a college or job interview) Lesson Evaluation: Students will participate in a group activity to demonstrate understanding of objective. IEP or TIEP Connection: For students with learning disabilities, this lesson can address each of the students Postsecondary Education Goals. Whether the student plans on attaining a job or applying/interviewing at a college, this lesson will help students seek and gain the information that is needed. |
