Behold the intrepid hikers! (we look so clean, and dry. That wont last) Kyle, Kelli, Sarah, Anushka, Mila
What lies ahead...
And so it all begins.
The Haiku Stairs (a hike also known as the Stairway to Heaven) are 3,922 steps up the Koolau Pali to the 2800-foot summit of Puu Keahiakahoe overlooking Haiku Valley. Originally built for the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) to allow maintenance personnel access to the LORAN radio antenna high above Haiku Valley, the trail is entirely a metal stairway that ascends the cliffs along the southern rim.
This hike is not officially open.
Halfway! It took about an hour to get to this point. The day we went was rainy and foggy so we did not get to see the views that the trail is famous for. However, the thick cloud cover gave the trail, especially the second half, a cool otherworldly feel and it was still very beautiful.
Kaneohe and Kailua
YEhah! I made it! Now I just have to get back down...
