Win: Don Fussell Loss: Nuke LaLoosh Save: Dan Sutter

After Maurie Hewitt’s third-inning blast staked Fussell to a 3-0 lead, Baltimore got one good chance to get even, when they loaded the bases with none out in the sixth.  But reigning MVP George Mabry popped out, and then after a walk forced in Baltimore’s only run, Michael Sagmoen grounded into a double play to end the inning.

Win: George Pinson Loss: Mike Lindaman

For seven innings, Renko and Pinson battled in a scoreless duel, though Pinson faired much better.  While Pinson allowed just four hits in the entire game, the Caps had no trouble putting runners on against Renko—they just couldn’t get them home.  George Mabry—who went 0-5—personally stranded seven of them.  Finally, the Baltimore bats exploded in the eighth, as the first seven batters reached, good for five of the six runs in the inning.

Larry Farr’s RBI single in the sixth erased Baltimore’s early lead, but then the Caps exploded for five in the seventh, including a bases loaded triple by Jason Merritt.  Shad Salkeld worked two and a third innings of scoreless relief, despite walking the bases loaded in the eighth.

With their backs to the wall, the Caps wasted no time getting ahead.  An RBI single by Mabry and a three-run shot by Rob Floyd gave them a four-run first-inning cushion, which was more than enough for LaLoosh.  He scattered four hits and three walks over eight and two-thirds for the win, forcing a seventh game.

Win: Milt Renko Loss: George Pinson

Baltimore’s postseason frustration continued, as Game 7 turned out to be a battle they were simply never in.  Chicago took the lead early and kept pouring it on the rest of the game, Tolentino leading the way with 3 RBI.  Renko scattered eight runners in a complete game win.
