In a hard-fought game, Brooklyn’s two-run eighth-inning rally put them three outs away from tying the series, but after a Melvin James two-run shot tied it in the ninth, Adam Howe singled home the winning run to put the Tigers on the brink of elimination.

After shutting down the Tigers for six innings, Riss got himself into, and nearly out of, a bases-loaded jam in the seventh before Sean Cubillan hit a three-run triple to put Brooklyn ahead and keep them alive in the series.
