Down three games, Cincinnati faced a nearly impossible task.  They gave it their best in game four, however, as Mike Brown held the powerful St. Louis offense to just two hits in eight innings.  Dick Morgan hit a solo shot in the first to put the Stearnwheelers up 1-0.  Mike Bivas answered in the second, doubling home Adam Howe with St. Louis’ only run.  Pierotti was solid, but Wally Kelner finally doubled home Jason Merritt with the go-ahead run in the sixth.  Hugh Butler worked a perfect ninth for the save.

Adam Howe put St. Louis ahead with a 2-run second inning shot, and then Alex Sugden added another run with an RBI single.  Cincinnati battled, picking up a run on an Alan Jeffcoat single in the bottom of the inning, but Riss got tough and shut them down until the ninth.  By then, it was 4-1 St. Louis.

Al Giordano relieved Riss, and promptly walked the first two men he faced.  After getting a fly out and a pop-out, Giordano walked Lou Sutherland to load the bases.  Jim McKay followed with a two-run single, bringing home a pair of runs to make it 4-3.  But McMillan relieved Giordano and got Ray Adams to fly out to center, ending the game and sending St. Louis to the World Series.
