The Orange Sox took a 2-0 lead thanks to some bad defense and RBI hits from Kid Anderson and Mickey Walker, and then jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the fourth, thanks to another RBI from Walker and a grand slam by Boots Christensen.  Anderson allowed just two hits through the first seven innings, finally getting in trouble in the seventh, when Milwaukee scored three times.  But Bob Fogger worked an inning and two thirds in scoreless relief to earn the save.

Glenn Meacham singled home a pair of runs in the second, and after Shane Lutz hit a solo blast to make it 2-1, Buchannan and Pelty drove home a run each in the third to make it 4-1 Milwaukee.  Ty Anderson single-handedly got the Orange Sox back in the game, hitting solo home runs in the sixth and eighth innings.  But after Johnny Logan drove home an insurance run in the eighth, Cloninger took care of business and evened the series at one.

Phillippe and Buhl locked horns in a fierce pitchers duel that was scoreless for seven innings.  While Buhl faced hardly any threats through those innings, Phillippe dodged a major bullet in the sixth, when Milwaukee wasted back-to-back leadoff singles.  With one out in the eighth, Shane Lutz went deep to put Baltimore ahead, and then—with two out—Ty Anderson followed a Mickey Walker double with an RBI single to make it 2-0.

In the ninth, Johnny Logan singled against Phillippe, and then Sloan singled off Bob Fogger, putting runners at first and third.  After Fizer flew out, Brian Buchannan singled home Johnny Logan, putting Sloan—the tying run—at third with one out.  But Fogger got Bobby Geary to pop out and Al Lopez to ground out to end the game.

Glen Meacham spoiled Baltimore’s homecoming by leading the game off with a home run.  After Schantz got an out, Sloan, Fizer, and Buchannan singled consecutively to bring home a second run.  After Schantz worked out of the jam, the Orange Sox got a run back when Ty Anderson singled home Mickey Walker in the bottom of the inning.  In the fourth, Michael Brewer tied it up with a solo blast.  As Schantz kept the Brewskies in check, Baltimore exploded for four seventh inning runs; a two run shot by Ty Anderson and a two run single by Michael Brewer.

Schantz allowed two runs on eight hits in a complete game win, pushing Milwaukee to the brink of elimination.

With an opportunity to take the series with a win, a disaster struck Baltimore that would later prove a turning point in the series.

The Brewskies drilled Kid Anderson for five runs on five hits in the first inning.  After Billy Sloan singled home the first run, Al Lopez drew a bases-loaded walk to force home the second run.  The next batter—Keith Pelty—belted a three-run triple that knocked Anderson out of the game after just two-thirds of an inning.

Baltimore immediately rallied against Rand, scoring on RBI singles from Boots Christensen and Greg Gagne, and then a sacrifice fly from Oscar Radke in the first.  They finally chased Rand when Ty Anderson tied the game with a two run blast in the second.  The game quieted down after that, though Milwaukee managed to retake the lead when Billy Sloan singled home Glenn Meacham in the fourth.  In the seventh, an RBI single by Bobby Geary, followed promptly by a two-run Al Lopez shot, extended the Milwaukee lead to 9-5.

By the ninth, it was 9-6.  Cloninger came on to get the save, as he had many times throughout the playoffs.  This time, however, he didn’t come through.  Christensen singled and stole second with one out, and then Gagne drove him home with a single.  Garth Brennan then smacked a two-run blast to tie the game at nine.

After both sides went in order in the tenth, Milwaukee came through against Ed Ragland in the eleventh.  Three straight batters reached, loading the bases for Pete Fizer, who hit a sacrifice fly.  Later, Al Lopez added a two-run single.  The Orange Sox brought the tying run to the plate with one out in the bottom of the inning, but Dick Bishop managed to get out of the jam and allow Milwaukee to take the series back home.

Al Lopez gave Milwaukee a lead with a two-run second inning blast, but little known Shane Lutz gave the lead to Baltimore with a solo home run in the third and a three-run double in the fourth.  Keith Pelty cut it to 4-3 with an RBI single in the bottom of the inning, and then the Brewskies exploded against Carter in the fifth.  After the first three hitters reached, Carter walked in a pair of runs before yielding to Bob Fogger, who promptly gave up a two-run double to Al Lopez.  Two batters later, John White chipped in with a two-run single, capping a six-run inning and making it 9-4 Milwaukee.  The Orange Caps picked up three in the ninth, two on a Gagne single, but it was too little and too late to keep Milwaukee from earning a seventh game.

In one of the better duels in Dale Murphy League history, Bob Buhl lived up to his Cy Young fame, spoiling an almost equal effort from Deacon Phillippe.

Phillippe allowed just three hits through the first seven innings, while Buhl allowed three through the first eight.  Neither pitcher faced a serious jam all night, the Game 7 tension building as zero upon zero went up on the scoreboard.  Finally, in the last of the eighth, the Brewskies got to Phillippe.  After Keith Pelty doubled to open the inning, Buhl sacrificed him to third.  Glenn Meacham then drove him home with an RBI single.  After a walk to Logan, Billy Sloan singled home Meacham to make it 2-0.

Phillippe worked out of the jam, but it was more than Milwaukee would need.  Buhl got the first two outs in the ninth, then gave up a double to Garth Brennan that forced Cloninger into the game.  He got Oscar Radke to ground out to short, ending the game and giving the Brewskies their second World Championship.
