Stoy Jones,
A bio unworthy of film
I don't normally like to draw attention to myself. Being just one in a sea of folks who help run the giant entertainment machine known to us all as "Disney" is not all that amazing. I have run across many people outside of the company who knew friends and relatives who were castmembers. It is a profession of sorts with many opportunities and it is available in the job market. It is up to you to be willing to do things the Disney way like work holidays and weekends, follow behavior guidelines, and so forth. What is amazing about Disney is itself and how it lives, breathes, and carrys on day in and day out delivering endless entertainment. Hence this site. However, if you have made it this far and still want to know about me, just read on.
I first got in with Disney back in 1990, hoping to get a foot in the door to animation or any art related department. I signed in for the now defunct Career-Start Program. I told my interviewer that I would do virtually ANYTHING (and do it with a smile) to get a job, even if it meant scrubbing toilets. Well, needless to say, thats what I did and for the whole five years I was there. I started out living at the provided housing called Vista Way Apartments for a five month stint while I got acclimated to the Orlando area.
Throughout my busy five years, I got the fortunate opportunity to work in many areas of the Custodial department. These areas include, backareas, tunnel crew, window crew, road crew, recycling, attraction rehab clean-ups, and any other position I have discussed at my site. I finally left on good terms in 95, due to the pressures of finances and having a family. Today, Im still in the same line of work, but with a technology business. On the side, I have taken up the gauntlet of learning to paint in oils and currently a member of Wetcanvas.com. Feel free to check out my paintings in the links page!
A Quick Bio Gallery
Some custodians start very small like this little guy in the stroller. This is probably my first visit to the Magic Kingdom in Florida. I grew up in Palm Beach County, so trips to Orlando are pretty easy to make.
Same place, different age! I'm not quite old enough to clear the Child Labor Laws to be a custodian yet, but here I am visiting with a 4-H group. Actually, I had no idea that in the next ten years or so, I would be back in the same spot dumping garbage. Exciting, isn't it?
I finally made it! This pic was taken during the Christmas Parade in 92. I like this costume much better than the Cinderella footman costume described in the "Honey-Bucket" story.
I worked this parade on Christmas morning when it was televised live. One of the many "T.V. people" told me to stay behind and on the opposite side of Mickey's carriage, so I wouldn't block the camera. However, the horse had other plans! He timed it just right and I had to walk up and scoop away during the filming. Luckily I was on the opposite side (where I should be) and the camera-men were savvy enough to keep me out of the picture. I was told later that I had a two second head shot. Pretty funny, if you ask me!
Here is a picture of a happy couple. This was actually taken on our wedding day. If you can't afford to get away on your honeymoon, go around the "world" at the World Showcase. Nothing like having a picture taken with your boss too!
