This site is for displaying some of Curt’s piano music. Stay tuned…hehe!

I got real geeky last night and here is the result. It’s not 80’s but it’s just as good. A few things you need to realize…1) The recording is very poor quality because I don’t know what I’m doing. 2) The piano itself is about 100 years old and a little out of tune. 3) Probably the most notable…the piano player really isn’t that good, he just likes to play.

A little background…I had about 6 years of piano lessons when I was kid. I didn’t particularly like it or dislike it. I stopped playing when I got into high school. I went to college, graduated (EE degree), found a job, got married and bought a house. Had three kids, sold that house and got a bigger one. Mom wanted to re-carpet her living room and thought now would be the time to give me the piano. I accepted it gladly. That was little over a year ago. I started fiddling with it again and before I knew it I completely fell in love with it. I bought a Scott Joplin book, because my wife wanted me to play something that’s upbeat and I liked ragtime, so Joplin it was. So, below is the result of playing for six years as a kid, taking 17 years off, and then playing about 1-2 hours/day for a year.

All the songs are by Scott Joplin except for ‘Cannon in D’ (obviously). For more information about him you can visit here.

I put these songs in order of the ones I like the most starting at the top.

Maple leaf Rag

It’s kinda hard to actually finish an entire song mistake free (at least for me), so these songs all contain errors, but you can get the drift of:

Swipsy

Easy Winners

Bethena

Cascades

Entertainer – can’t play Joplin without at least learning this one right?!?!

Cannon in D – easy version.

Ragtime Dance – very hard for me to play.

A special thanks to my mom, who had me take piano lessons! I wasn’t grateful then, but I sure am now!
