4-H Community Service

Craig Kessler from Ducks Unlimited Inc.,
a leader in wetlands conservation,
talks to members of the
Water Mill Sportsmen 4-H Group,
the Water Mill Wildflowers 4-H Group and the Water Mill Wood Ducks 4-H Group
about the local area and how the bluebird populations are in jeopardy because they can not find enough nesting locations..
The 4-Her's learned that bluebirds prefer to live in open areas with scattered trees. Bluebirds are cavity nesting birds. They require either natural or artifical enclosures.

Here the 4-H members are preparing to construct a bluebird trail. The bluebird boxes were donated and the 4-H members helped with the final steps of placing them onto posts. The groups were instructed to dig holes two feet deep and place the bluebird boxes in an appropriate location.

The work in progress...

Members of the Water Mill Sportsmen 4-H Group, the Water Mill Wildflowers 4-H Group, and the Water Mill Wood Ducks 4-H Group gather when the work is done in front of one of the bluebird boxes they put up.
