||||||||||
| June 9, 2007: Like a well-oiled machine, Franchise Hockey took care of its last bit of business prior to the playoffs, defeating Mitty 11-3. The Franchise won by the mercy rule, ending the game midway through the second period and closing out the regular season with a 7-2-1 record. Mitty had a 1-0 lead in the first period, but the early goal lit a fire under the Franchise. Led by Josh Capelle and Matt King who both tied the all-time Franchise record for most points in a single game (eight), the Franchise simply stormed past Mitty. Capelle opened the scoring with a breakaway goal to tie the game. Moments later, King won a draw straight into the Mitty net. Capelle was set up by King on a two-on-one, then Capelle reciprocated on another two-on-one to give the Franchise a 4-1 lead. King set up Sheraj Ragoobeer (two goals, four assists) for his second of the year, and gave Cam Rowland (two goals, three assists) a perfect centering pass in the slot. The Franchise earned the mercy in the second period, as Capelle continued his rampage. The highlights were three assist from Chris Cornelius, a backhand breakway goal by Rowland and a stunning array of one-on-one dekes that ended up being Capelle's fifteenth goal of the year. Netminder Mikey Stanzler turned in his usual solid performance, however he was shaken up midway through the second period. The Franchise will need Stanzler healthy for the postseason, as the Franchise is still unsure on their playoff situation.
