| May 19, 2007: Franchise Hockey's much-anticipated rematch with rival Overfelt was a thorough clunker for the Franchise. Losing by the score of 6-5, the Franchise was nearly able to salvage a game in which it was completely dominated. Led by captain Matt King and Kris Anderson, who contributed two goals apiece, the Franchise struggled from the beginning. Overfelt took a 1-0 lead on the first shift of the game and extended it to a two goal lead, moments later. A miscue by the Overfelt goaltender giftwrapped King's first of the game, but the Franchise trailed 3-1 after the first period. A powerplay goal by Anderson and a King wrap-around wristshot made the score close in the second. However, Mikey Stanzler and the Franchise net was under siege. Headed into the third, the team felt fortunate to be down 5-3. In the third, a miscue by Cam Rowland, who contributed two assists, led to a shorthanded goal by Overfelt. But Myles Rowland answered quickly, scoring top-shelf from a nearly impossible angle. With seconds remaining, Anderson converted his second of the night on a King feed. But it was too little, too late. The Franchise was upset by a near-goal in the third. King's dump off the boards appeared to deflect off an Overfelt defenseman and into the net. However, the referees did not have a clear view of the play and could not tell that it had crossed the line. Playing without forward Josh Capelle and defenseman Ray Cleverly, Franchise Hockey did not have its best skating legs. With Overfelt controlling the puck for most of the night, the Franchise will have to gear up for next weekend's rematch. But, this time, it will be without both Myles and Cam Rowland. Box Score: 1st Period: King 13 2nd Period: Anderson 4 (C. Rowland, M. Rowland) King 14 (M. Rowland, Ragoobeer) 3rd Period: M. Rowland 7 (King, C. Rowland) Anderson 5 (King, Ragoobeer) Goaltending: Stanzler 2-2 (6 GA) Captain's Thoughts: Embarrassing. Take it personally. That is all.- Your Captain #37 |
