GAME 2:
Franchise Hockey 9 Mitty 2
April 21, 2007: Franchise Hockey downed sports powerhouse Mitty 9-1 Saturday night, the Franchise's first Rollin' Ice victory minus starting netminder Mikey Stanzler.  Playing a depleted Mitty team that had only one reserve, a situation that the Franchise itself went through the following week, the Franchise dominated from the beginning.

Chris King, the younger brother of captain Matt King, made his Franchise debut.  The younger King was solid, yielding only two first period goals on soft defensive coverage.

For the second straight week, the Franchise badly outclasses its opponent.  This week, the Myles Rowland-Kris Anderson line lead the way.  Rowland scored a hat trick to go with two assists, while Anderson, in his season debut, scored twice and added three assists.  The second line of Matt King and Brian Reich combined to score four goals.

Rowland opened the game with a quick wristshot on the first shift of the game.  Rowland's goal would open the floodgates.  On the next play, Reich gave King a perfect pass for a beautiful one-timer goal.  Next, Anderson took a Rowland feed and slipped home his first of the season.  Rowland gave the Franchise a 4-2 lead to close out the first with a filthy deke off an absolutely gorgeous pass from Anderson who completely controlled the play behind the Mitty net for a good twenty seconds.

The Franchise buckled down its defense in the second period, but the offense continued to roll.  King took a beautiful shot-pass from Sheraj Ragoobeer, who tallied three assists, and deked the goaltender for a backhand goal.  Shortly after, a defensive pokecheck by Rowland sent Anderson in on a breakaway which he buried.  The Franchise increased its lead to 7-2 after Reich put in the rebound of a King shot.

Reich and King connected again, as Reich tipped a King pass into the net.  Rowland ended the night with a wristshot goal, with the assists going to Anderson.

The Franchise improved its record to 2-0.  With the team's two wins both being blowouts, returning to Division 4B does not remain out of the questions.  Next week's game will likely be the Franchise's first divisional game of the season.

Captain's Thoughts:

Ahh...we beat Mitty.  What a satisfying feelings.  Maybe it's the playoff loss to them last year, or the fact that they beat the M-A basketball team twice.  But, for whatever reason, the Franchise triumphing over Mitty is just undescribably sweet.

Having my brother fill in for Mikey and play quite well was a very cool feeling.  He earned the locker room's trust and respect tonight.  It appears that we have our emergency goaltender.

The lines really clicked tonight.  Myles and Kris dominated, and Brian and myself had our finest game playing as a unit.  On defense, Sheraj, Ray and Cam took care of business as usual.

What to work on?  Well, we might be incorporating a new player, which is always a concern.  We don't want to just throw him into the lineup cold, but it's hard to find time for practice.  Our defense was solid but could still use improvement.  And, finally, we really need to be more aware of where our teammates are.

But, a good win.-

Your Captain
