| GAME 7: Franchise Hockey 17 Bellarmine 3 |
||||||||||
| February 16, 2008: Again with four skaters, one of whom had a 101 temperature, Nick Sako bailed out his teammates. In on every one of Franchise Hockey's seventeen goals, Sako finished with fourteen goals and three assists and led to his team to a 17-3 win. After captain Matt King, slowed by a fever, opened the scoring, it truly was the Sako show. After hitting Ray Cleverly stepping out of the penalty box with a perfect pass which led to Cleverly's fourth goal of the season, Sako proceeded to score the team's final eleven goals. With no Sheraj Ragoobeer or other reinforcements, Franchise Hockey was short again against Bellarmine. Fortunately, behind Sako, it got strong contributions from its other three skaters. King, with his second nine assists performance in a row, finished with eleven points. Cleverly scored a goal and had eight assists. Chris Cornelius finished with five assists. Mikey Stanzler again was solid in nets. Stanzler has won four straight. Next week will be the real test. Against the division's top team, Leigh, Franchise Hockey will need more skaters. Box Score: 1st Period: King 15 (Sako, Cornelius) King 16 (Sako, Cornelius) Sako 24 (King) Sako 25 (King, Cleverly) Sako 26 (King) 2nd Period: Cleverly 4 (Sako, King) Sako 27 (Cleverly, King) Sako 28 (King, Cleverly) Sako 29 Sako 30 (Cleverly, Cornelius) 3rd Period: Sako 31 (Cleverly, King) Sako 32 (Cleverly) Sako 33 Sako 34 (Cleverly, King) Sako 35 (Cleverly, Cornelius) Sako 36 (King, Cornelius) Sako 37 Goaltending: Stanzler 4-2 (3 GA) Captain's Thoughts: Sometimes, you just have to stop for a second and take in what you're seeing. Tonight was perhaps the best individual effort I've ever seen. What Sako did for us was unbelievable. The fact that he scored fourteen was amazing, but, for me, it was really the way he attacked the Bellarmine net all game long. It was truly spectacular. Ray played his best game of the season and maybe of his entire career. Chris C was huge on defense. And Mikey shut the door. Next week is Leigh. Hopefully, we'll have more than four skaters. Time to make a statement.- Your Captain #37 |
