Game 8:
Monta Vista 12 Franchise Hockey 7
August 11, 2006: A seven goal outburst by a frustrated offense made Monta Vista sweat, but Franchise Hockey came up just shy of its first Rollin' Ice victory.

Captain Matt King scored six goals in the defeat, as Monta Vista elected to use five skaters.  Robby Merk chipped in with the other goal and an assist, and Chris Sorenson exploded for four assists.

Franchise Hockey played arguably its strongest all-around game, as defenseman Kit McCavitt and forward John Peters made significant strides in increased playing time.  Peters picked up his first point of the year, assisting on King's buzzer-beating sixth goal.

Making his third career start was Mikey Stanzler.  Stanzler, playing in his final start before David McGrouther returns, was inconsistant.  His butterfly style kept his team in the game until the third period.

King's double hat trick set a new Franchise Hockey single-game record for goals, dating back to both leagues.  Sorenson's four assists set a new Rollin' Ice record and tied the Palo Alto Family League mark.

The Franchise will face off against the Mustangs next week.  With McGrouther and Drew Winn returning to the lineup, Franchise Hockey will be at full strength while playing its best hockey of the year.

Captain's Thoughts:

I for one am a huge fan of the opposition using five skaters.  This team needed to score, and we had a solid offensive game with increased puck possession and sharpness in the offensive zone.  With Drew returning next week, things will only get better.

Kit and JP had perhaps their best games of the season.  JP got his first point, and Kit really should have had his first career goal.  Their efforts in the game and in practice really jump-started the whole Franchise.

And what can you say about Miami and Robby?  They're offensive forces, who are slowly but surely imposing their well on the opposition.

As a team, we're still getting outskated.  However, we're finding ways to survive our lack of speed.  With smart defensive play and good communication, our defense is doing a solid job in front of Mikey.

Practice is everyday at 7 this week.  Stay Franchastic.-
