| Game 6: Sobrato 12 Franchise Hockey 7 |

| July 28, 2006: With a new goaltender, several flashy replacement players and the heart of the roster, Franchise Hockey put up its best effort of the year, falling 12-7. The replacement players accounted for five goals, but the real story was Mikey Stanzler, Chris Sorenson and Drew Winn. Making his Franchise Hockey debut, Stanzler held Sobrato scoreless in the first period. In fact, the Franchise led by two goals after the first frame. A rough eight goal second period decided the game, but Stanzler's butterfly style and rock-solid instincts resulted in one of the best goaltending efforts of the season. Sorenson overcame his penalty troubles to add a goal and an assist. Sorenson scored to end the third period and assisted on a garbage goal in front of the net. Winn played a solid two-way game and scored his first goal of the season, stuffing a puck into the net from the deep slot. Matt King overcame an ankle injury, but was clearly hampered by it. He was picked up however by Sheraj Ragoobeer's best defensive game. Ragoobeer's speed almost resulted in additional goals. Things will get tougher for the Franchise as they will be even shorter next week with the absence of Winn. Robby Merk and Dara Rahimzadeh are scheduled to return. Box Score: 1st Period: Replacement Replacement (Sorenson) 2nd Period: Replacement (Ragoobeer) Replacement 3rd Period: Winn 1 Replacement Sorenson 4 Goaltending: Stanzler 0-1 (12 GA) Captain's Thoughts: Hmm...what rhymes with encouraging?...In all seriousness, this was amazing. Sure, the replacement players were good and definitely helped. But, in all honesty, this was Franchise Hockey's game. Mikey was awesome in net, Drew finally scored, and Miami simply put all past demons to rest. I'm almost speechless by how the team came together. Passing was crisp, the defense was solid, and we had puck possession in the offensive zone for a good amount of time. In terms of how we can push things over the edge and get the W, it all starts in net. Mikey needs to work on high shots and conditioning, both of which will be fixed by next week. As a team, we played out of position too often. In general, our forwards have to stay at forward, and our D-men gotta stay on defense. We'll be short again next week. This game was encouraging, so get ready for things to get even more Franchastic. And it all starts at practice...- Your Captain #37 |
