Game 3:
Mitty 8 Franchise Hockey 2
July 7, 2006: The stars came out for Franchise Hockey's 8-2 loss to Mitty.  Despite the lopsided score, the game brought to light individual and team highlights that will not soon be forgotten.

Both Franchise Hockey goals were scored by Matt King, assisted by Chris Sorenson.  Both plays were the result of sharp teamwork and passing.  King scored both his goals low and played inspired defense, blocking a multitude of shots in front of fill-in netminder Kit McCavitt.

The story of the game was, however, Sorenson.  Playing with an injured ankle, Sorenson set up two goals and logged major minutes at forward and defenseman.  He was also involved in two controversial penalties, though neither resulted in goals against for the Franchise.

In place of David McGrouther, McCavitt got the start between the pipes.  Usually the team's top defenseman, McCavitt gutted out the entire game and made several key stops.

Other highlights included the solid team defense by the entire Franchise, several crucial defensive plays by John Peters, Drew Winn playing over half the game, and Daniel Lees getting his first action of the season.

Box Score:

1st Period:
King 2 (Sorenson)

3rd Period:
King 3 (Sorenson)

Goaltending:
McCavitt 0-1 (8 GA)

Captain's Thoughts:

I think this was our best effort of the season.  As the team's hockey IQ level grows, so does the team's defensive awareness.  Eight goals looks bad, but it was definitely not because of lackluster defense.  I felt like I finally was solid on D, as was JP and Drew Winn.

I think the team as a whole needs to give it up for two tremendous individual efforts by the assistant captains.  Kit in goal was spectacular.  As usual, he was the true Defensive Captain.  And what can you say about Miami?  He plays with his heart on his sleeve.  He was fired up all game long, initiating the physical play and setting up our only two goals.  Even playing at less than 50%, he was a force.

In terms of things we need to work on, I think practice just makes perfect.  Franchise Hockey is definitely on a path to success.  And with Sheraj, Robby, David and Ray on the way back, things will only get better.

Stay tuned.  I smell a win coming...-
