| Game 2: Bandits 12 Franchise Hockey 2 |
|||||||||
| June 30, 2006: In only its second Rollin' Ice Game, an extremely short-handed Franchise Hockey suffered a resounding 10-2 defeat. The Bandits were able to thoroughly outskate and outscore a beleaguered Franchise Hockey. With Chris Sorenson sidelined due to an ankle injury, the Franchise, already without John Peters, Robby Merk, Sheraj Ragoobeer and a handful of others, was simply dominated. Because of the shortage of players, Franchise Hockey was forced to accept replacement players, including former standout Drew Winn. Playing with two Monte Vista players, the Franchise was completely thrown out of sync. The only two Franchise Hockey goals were scored by a replacement player, with Matt King assisting on both. The puck was dominated by these replacements, as the lack of chemistry ultimately lead to the debacle. Defenseman Kit McCavitt had a very rough game, as did goaltender David McGrouther. With the Franchise's record at 0-2, next week's grudge match against Mitty will be a turning point in the season. Box Score: 2nd Period: Replacement (King) Replacement (King) Goaltending: McGrouther 0-2 (12 GA) Captain's Thoughts: Ouch. As much as I love hockey, this game was a wakeup call. That was not fun. I love this group of guys to death, but this was just not a good outing. Frankly, the attendance problem is pretty bad. We need more players to attend games. Things will get better as the summer progresses, but this is a real frustrating situation right now. The replacement players were definitely appreciated. They were nice guys and gave a good effort, but they simply don't belong on Franchise Hockey. 1-on-1 play simply will not get it done. I hate to make this about me, but I'm well aware that this was a game where I needed to take control. To have replacement players come in and take that Del Toro-given opportunity away from me was very upsetting for me. I had a couple assists, and the existing members of Franchise Hockey passed the puck well. We know what we need to work on. Everything. We're practicing everyday this week, starting Sunday. Sorry to not end on a more positive note, but winning requires practice. I'll see you at Hillview.- Your Captain #37 |
