I was born on the 27th of January 1963 in Vienna, Austria. After 4 years in primary school and 4 years of highschool I decided to use my interests in chemistry and started a technical chemistry class in a special highschool in vienna (Höhere Bundes-, Lehr- und Versuchsanstalt für chemische Industrie, Vienna). I finished the 5 year education on the 14th June 1982 and started to study biochemistry at the Vienna University.

From January 1994 until august 1987 I started to work besides the study as a teaching assistant in the above mentioned school in various analytical, technological and preparative laboratories. Subsequently I worked as referent for environment pollutants for the City of Vienna and as a consultant for the new Austrian law on chemicals for Merck Austria. Passing the chemistry school and collecting experience in corresponding fields I received the title "engineer in technical chemistry".

After finishing my masters degree in biochemistry on the 3rd February 1989 I started to work on my Ph.D. degree [Characterising the envelope of the alga Cyanophora paradoxa] in which context I was invited to work for 3 month at the University in Tucson/Arizona [protein isolation and production of antibodies] and 6 weeks at the Centre de Reserche Nucleaire in Grenoble/France [lipid analysis and gaschromatography]. Main topics of my work were protein isolation and characterisation, expression library screening, hybridisation techniques [western, northern, southern] and DNA isolation and sequencing. Parallel to my research activities I was again teaching assistant at the Biochemistry Institute for the "biochemical practical courses" and during the winter semesters 1990-1993 I was lecturer in the course "Introduction in biochemical methods".

During 1993 I had to do civil service (duty) and I started to write my thesis.

In April 1994 I started to work at the "Federal Control Institute for Animal Diseases" in Mödling/Austria. I am head of the department "residue analysis of antibiotics and chemotherapeutics" controlling the meat production in Austria using HPLC-, LC-MS-, GC-MS- und ELISA methods, for more then two years I was additional responsible of the analysis of heavy metals and pesticides using AAS- and GC-methods. As member of this national reference laboratory I have many contacts to colleagues and workshops from/in the corresponding institutions within the European Community. Attending international Conferences (HPCE ´95 Würzburg, HPLC ´95 Innsbruck, HPLC ´96 San Francisco, EuroResidue III ´96 Veldhofen, IMSC ´97 Tampere, Veterinary Drug Analysis ´98 Brügge, MS in Health&Life Science ´98 San Francisco) gives me the opportunity to following the development in analytical chemistry.

On the 9th September 1994 I married Monika Kerek (Hungarian) and on the 13th July 1997 our doughter Mia was born.
