See who's riding the elephant???
Max & Mohan's
Victorian bicycle adventure
April 2002
Easter 2002, camping high in the Victorian Alps.

Well,  it promised to be cool, and it was. What we didn't count on was a week of constant rain.

At least we had the comfort of our pit toilet to enjoy. It was only 100m up the soggy hill: luxury indeed.
One thing we weren't short of were places to explore.

Each morning we would set off through the mud and rain on our bikes.  And according to Ivan, we thoroughly enjoyed each km.

The snowgums and stockmans huts through the mist gave the appearance of a film set.
Over hill and dale...

Much of the riding was along the "aquaduct" track which follows a small aquaduct for 30 or so kilometres through the mountains.

The firetrails and walking tracks were much harder going. Max, Mohan, Lachlan and Jonathan didn't mind - the tougher it got, the more they loved it (haha).
After a week in the mountains, it was time for a change of scene...

We drove to historical Beechworth, said goodbye to our camping companions  and started a 4 day cycle tour through the Ovens Valley.
One hundred and ten kilometers of bliss...

In contrast to the mountain biking conditions on the High Plains, we now followed the "Murray to the Mountains" railtrail.

This railway line converted to a cycle path goes through Wangarratta, Beechworth, Myrtleford to Bright. Over 100km of tar sealed luxury.  To see more, look at their
site.
On the way, there were olive farms, wineries, tobacco plantations & orchards.

Foraging fresh apples and walnuts was great; but Max wouldn't have a bar of "stolen" goods!
