4539 Ritchie Street*

Across the street from here [4538] stood the home of Michael and Pelagia Konoza (my grandparents). Unfortunately, the row of houses has been torn down. However the styles were similar

One of a few factories where Michael Stanley Konoza (my grandfather) worked as a weaver/loom mechanic was here at C & Tioga Streets in 1936. He was 45 when he filled out his
Social Security application.

This area is known as the "Badlands" today, so we refrained from exiting our vehicle while taking this picture.

The building behind the utility pole is not believed to be his mill--having a different name on it. The lot to the left was strewn with rubble, possibly what is left of the BKF factory.

It is here where a midwife is said to have lived. John Stanley Konoza (my father) was born "at the house on the corner" and later taken to the local hospital for a check-up. No doubt the same midwife delivered several of my aunts and uncles.
Temple University

John Stanley Konoza (my father) taught Russian here circa 1948-1951 for the military. During this time my sisters Geri and Pat were born in Philadelphia.

My parents had met and married in Monterey, California in 1947. Both of them were in the Army at that time.

The next assignment for "Stanley" after Temple University was the Korean War.

*a footnote: 4539 was the house number listed on my grandfather's social security application, but the house number listed on the records at Westminster Cemetery is 4538 Ritchie Street
