of the Ruzzos

Originally from Paternopoli near Naples, Italy where he had been a farmer, Francesco (Frank) Ruzzo settled in Chester, Pennsylvania, USA.

Ruzzo married Sophia Eisenhard and had six children. The two oldest died very young, perhaps from the flu of 1917 or consumption--before "Sis" Sophie was born in 1921. Frank worked at the Ford plant in Chester, PA.

The Ruzzos lived at 7th and Flower Streets and later moved to 7th and Lloyd Streets, when the kids were older. They later moved to Lindsay Street, where they spent their golden years.

The Eisenhards were from Bonn, Germany. Sophia was born in the USA.

Sophie Ruzzo worked at the Wirz tube mill prior to joining the Army in 1944.

Her Army training was at Oglethorpe, Georgia and then she was stationed in Hampton Roads, Virginia.

Later she was transferred to Camp Stoneman, California, which is a half-hour from Oakland. She was a Mess Sergeant there.

This is where she met
John S.  Konoza. They were married in Monterey, California on November, 1 1947.

The couple moved to Chester, PA, where they lived in an apartment. John managed to get assigned to Temple University to teach Russian for the military. Geri and Pat were born during this time.

Next, John was shipped out to the Korean War until it's end in 1953. Then the family moved to Fort Bragg, North Carolina where Konoza was assigned to Special Forces, the "Green Berets". His specialties were medical, demolitions and intelligence.

From there he was sent to Bad Tolz, Germany taking the family with him. During this time John Joseph was born prematurely and lived for only about a week.

The family later returned to Fort Bragg, where the rest of the kids (Barb, Mike and John C.) were born.

John S. retired from the Army in 1961 and went to work for the CIA in Langley, VA.  He and the family moved to Springfield, VA to live at that time.  In 1963, an infant son was stillborn to Sophie and then buried in Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia
