Update ![]() The Model Train Exhibit is doing well and gaining momentum with the addition of several new members which brings our total to 31. We also have several new projects in the works that we are excited about.
We are working on a new sign to be planted in the front lawn to attract more visitors to the Model Train Exhibit and Lavina Kidd will soon set up shop at our location to begin the artwork. The clubroom will soon be called the learning center where our members and guests will be able to learn about model railroading with hands on exhibits. They can make model trees for the mountain project or test their skill at placing rail cars in their proper siding on the switching game. There is railroad reference material available as well as the latest issue of Model Railroader magazine for tips and ideas. And soon you will be able to test the tractive effort of your N-scale or HO locomotive with our pulling power tester. We have also added a projector to the learning center and will be showing railroading slideshows and videos on a huge screen. We also have another projector that, in the future, will be set up in the front part of the chapel after we make some repairs and make it into a theater with surround sound. Another project in the works is a fund raising garage sale for the club. This would be held twice a year in the old chapel after we clean it up and do some repairs. We will be accepting your donated items to sell with a percentage of the proceeds going to the museum and the rest will go towards the model train exhibit and MKMR expenses. And coming April 19th. the Southwest Kansas Railroaders will be our guest as they hold their meeting that Saturday at our facility. The exhibit opens at 1 pm and we will show a slide presentation on the restoration of the Abilene & Smoky Valley RR's ATSF 3415 steam locomotive and another on the goals and accomplishments of the Mid Kansas Model Railroaders and future plans for the Belli Bros. layouts. Also there be a presentation by David Nigh on the history of the ATSF McPherson Branch and the other railroads that came to McPherson. 2008-03-27 01:29:57 GMT
