 Change the skin

One of the example of the wonder of Gods' creation is 'the brain and the nervous system'. The work of this brain and the nervous system in nutshell is to receive information from the special senses and react accordingly. The special senses include skin, tongue, eye, nose and ear as everybody knows.

The skin plays the role of delivering the sensations of touch, pain, and temperature in nervous system. It acts as a receiver of these sensation by some structures present in it. These structures receive specific sense, and transfer it to higher level. These include;

1. Pecinian corpusules: These are the structures which receive the sensation of touch.

2. Krause Bulbs: These are the structures which receive the sensation of cold.

3. Rufini: These are the structures which receive the sensation of touch.

4. Free nerve endings: These are the structures which receive the sensation of touch.

These structures are called as primary sense receptors. They are stimulated by corresponding senses while contacted. The impulses received by these receptors were taken up by the peripheral nerves. Through spinal cord and brainstem, they were relayed and taken to the sensory center in the cortex of the brain. It analyses the sense received and order the reaction accordingly.

If anything which is capable of producing pain, if contact the skin, this will initiate 'free nerve endings' which in turn stimulate the peripheral nerves. This impulse will pause via the spinal cord, end in the sensory cortex. This sensory cortex will analysis this impulse and identify it as pain, and thus we will appreciate the sensation of pain. If any part of the brain, from free nerve ending to sensory cortex is disturbed or damaged for any reason, then it will be difficult or not possible to appreciate the pain sense. For e.g.

1. Diabetes mellitus: One of the common disease of the mankind is excessive sugar in the blood, called Diabetes mellitus. Patients with longer duration of this disease with ineffective control of sugar, were prone for development of damage to the peripheral nerves. This will cause the dysfunction of sensory system, leading to blunting or absence of sensation of pain and thus many complications.

2. Burns injury: Injury due to burns is divided into three degrees, depending upon the depth of the injury. First degree burns involves a part of epidermis, the upped layer of the skin. Third degree burns involve entire thickness of the skin including epidermis and dermis. In first degree burns, the free nerve endings are exposed, and vulnerable to irritation by varies things. Hence these patients will have severe pain. In contrast, patients with third degree burns, will loose the free nerve endings because the loss of the skin. These patients will experience practically no pain.

whenever somebody threaten you that he will strip your skin, please don't worry! You will not experience the pain. It is a joke! But it will not prevent us from the fear of Allah's punishment. He warns us the the dormant to the disbelievers.

" Surely! Those who disbelieved in Our Proofs, We shall burn them in Fire. As often as their skins are roasted thorough, We shall change them for other skin that they may taste the punishment. Truly, Allah is Ever Most Powerful, All  wise. " - An Nisha: 56.

This verse is one of the example of the scientific excellence present in the Qur aan, denoting that skin is very much essential for sensing the pain. This scientific data is appreciable. But for the people who are believing God, it is more to appreciate the punishment of Him, how hard it will be. Then it is our duty to live accordingly.
