Dodgeball

back to Playground

The rules of the game are very simple: Players are split into two teams, and a dodgeball is placed in the court.  When the game starts, players grab the ball and try to hit the opponent players below the waist. If the player is hit, he/she either exits the game or goes into a designated "jail cell" zone.  A team wins when all of its opponents are in the jail or exited from the game.

Game Play

  • Teams must choose sides to begin the match and set a goalie at the opposite end of the court.
  • Teams will alternate sides after each match.
  • White lines are the boundary lines.

  • The object of the game is to eliminate all opposing players by getting them out.
    • An out is scored by:
      A. Hitting an opposing player with a live thrown ball below the waist.
Note: If a player ducks, and this clearly is the cause for the player being hit above the waist, the player is out and the throw is legal.
      B. Blocking a ball, but not catching it.
      C. Trying to catch a ball, but dropping it.
      D. Stepping out of bounds.
  • A player who is out must move to the opposite end of the court with the goalie "jail zone".  All players in the goalie section can help to get players on the opposite team out.

  • A team wins when all players on the opposite team are "out".
Unsportsmanlike Conduct will result in the removal of players demonstrating this behavior.
It may include, but is not limited to:
1. foul language
2. hits above the shoulders
3. unnecessary roughness
4. arguing with officials, staff, participants, or fans
5. abuse of the honor system
