As the granddaughter sat watching the happenings of the world with Grandpa, The child looked up and asked Grandpa, "Why are those people protesting? Why are they mad at the soldiers?" Grandpa held out his hand and said, "Come sit with me little one." As she climbed into her Grandpa's lap he slowly began to speak.

"Those people that are able to protest are using one of the rights that those soldiers are fighting for. Because of the brave Men and Women who willingly stand up and protect this country and other countries, you are able to live in a land that lets you choose where you want to go, who you want to be, when you want to go, and able to do things you want to do." He signed and continued, "For as long as there are people in this world that want to take God Given rights away from people, hopefully we will always have our Men and Women of the military who protect us from that."

As Grandpa drew his next breathe, his young granddaughter looked at him and said, "Grandpa, why are you so sad?"

With tears in his eyes, Grandpa hugged her tight and said, "A long time ago I was one of those men, a Marine, who protected this countries rights, in a land called Korea. While I was there I was captured and became a POW. During that time all I waited for was that one moment in time to be free." "But rest assured little one, as much as the protesters upset me with their free speech, I would do it again so that you, my precious one will always have the right to make choices and be what you want."

The little granddaughter looked at her grandpa with awe in her eyes, touched his cheek and said,"Grandpa thank you for doing that for me." She hugged him tight and said, "When I get big, I want to make sure that we stay free and I hope I can be a Marine like you"
