Macedonians arrange friendly with Portugal
Sunday,
02 March 2003
Macedonia have arranged a friendly game against
UEFA EURO 2004 hosts Portugal on 2 April.
First meeting
The match, likely to be played in the Swiss city of Geneva, will be the first
meeting between the two nations. Macedonia will go into the game just three days
after their home EURO 2004 qualifier against Slovakia, having gained an
excellent 2-2 draw in England in their last match. They are now third in Group 4
with two points from three games.
'Difficult opponents'
"I wanted us to play against difficult opponents. On 2 April, Macedonia
will be free from EURO 2004 qualification and the Portuguese offer came in
the right time," Macedonian coach Nikola Ilievski said.
Croatian friendlies
Ilievski's side played three friendlies in Croatia last month, drawing with
their host nation and HNK Hajduk Split but losing 3-0 to Poland.
