General Know How...
-
This is the most important advice I can give : Get a well qualified and highly experienced
trainer. I personally define an ideal trainer as someone in his 40s or 50s with a good body and
loads of experience in working in some good gym. Someone who has achieved something in his
younger days and is still enthusiastic in helping you. Someone who is behind the biggies
you've seen. This is the most important, is a guarantee to your dream muscles and is the most
plausible solution to all your problems.
-
Take a bottle of tap/mineral water and keep on taking in between your workouts to avoid dehydration.
-
Do take a proteins and carbs rich quickly digestible sports-drink within an hour of your workout
session.
-
Never eat any heavy meals within an hour of workouts.
-
Always do atleast two warm-up sets of 15-20 reps before to avoid injury.
-
Stop immediately if you feel any sort of pain while doing any exercise. This is something everyone
neglects but trust me although little, I've got my share of injuries and I know that I could
avoid them if I'd have followed this advice. Just use your common sense, if something hurts,
it simply means that either your muscles are already injured or you are doing something incorrectly.
So why not stop and find out the cause behind the pain? That way your workouts will be more
productive.
-
Don't add too much when increasing the weight. 2-5 pounds is ok depending upon you level.
-
Don't let your reps drop below 3-4 in the last sets of the pyramid.
-
Do both compound and isolation exercises.
-
No matter how experienced or strong you are, before doing any new exercise (or what you've not done for
some time) first build up your form and get a feel of it by doing warmup sets with less weights.
-
Follow all the precautions specified with any particular exercise.
-
Always have your instructor/spotter nearby. You may not need an instructor when you get some
experience with the exercise but initially don't rely on the manuals. There are loads of things
that only the other guy watching you can point out.
-
Have some partner to workout with you. It is my experience that people with partners survive longer
at the gyms.
-
Don't do any weird things just because of some girls nearby. First of all they are supposed to be
doing there own workouts rather then counting the plates on your bar and even if they are interested
they will be more impressed by the proper way you do the workouts and probably the size/shape of
your muscles. If they are one of those who get impressed by how much plates you can load, then
that means they are complete shit just like you who never gains a cm of muscles and just serves the
purpose of disturbing others. Then you have more chances of having a date by showing how strong you
are by jumping off empire state building. Why waste time in the trifles like gym?
-
Stick to your workout-plan and don't get influenced by the weights other people use. I've seen
guys with trembling legs while doing bench press, but they never lower the weight. These people are
complete shit and don't last any more then 2-3 weeks in the gym. Think this. Don't let your ego
interfere with your workout plan. And trust me, nobody in this universe except your trainer and
you is really interested in how muc weights you use. Nobody takes any particular interest if
you don't have a really huge body or if you're not doing something really weird.
