Science 10 Course Outline

 

SUPPLIES

The following is a list of supplies you will need to bring to each class:

 

• 3-ring binder with lots of paper
• pens(red and blue and/or black), pencil, eraser, ruler, calculator
• assigned textbook
• agenda

 

Class time wasted by not having appropriate materials will be made up after school. Students will not be allowed to go to their lockers during class.

 

CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS

The classroom is our workplace. Here are some rules that will help us work together.

 

1. Be in your seat and prepared to work when the bell rings.

 

2. Do not bring any food, drink, hats, or walkmans to class.

 

3. Using the bathroom is a privilege rarely granted.

 

4. If you are late, wait quietly outside the door until I have finished giving instructions. I will admit you when it is convenient. Lates are not acceptable and you will have to make up time after school.

 

5. If you miss a class, you are responsible for the work done. This includes copying notes and completing any homework assigned during the missed class before the next class. With a note from home excusing your absence, you will write any missed tests and quizzes upon returning to class. Missed labs must be made up within the designated time.

 

6. Unexcused absences are not acceptable and will result in a loss of marks for any marked activities undertaken during the missed class.

 

7. Unexcused late assignments will be accepted with a penalty of 10% per day late. Once an assignment has been marked and returned, you will only receive a maximum mark of 50% if the assignment is completed in my presence within the designated time.

 

8. Cheating is unacceptable and will result in a zero for all parties involved. Cheating includes:

·        Copying or allowing someone to copy on a test or quiz

·        Using a cheat sheet on a test or quiz

·        Copying or allowing someone to copy an assignment or lab either in whole or in part

·        Copying directly from the text or another resource

 

9. You are dismissed by the teacher, not by the bell.

 

10. ABOVE ALL BE COURTEOUS AND RESPECTFUL OF OTHERS AT ALL TIMES.

 

 

CONSEQUENCES

Failure to adhere to the classroom rules will result in the following action:

1.       You will be reminded of the rule.

2.     I will discuss the ongoing problem with you during an after school detention.

3.     Your parent(s) and/or guardian(s) will be phoned.

4.     A referral will be made to the administration.

 

 

HOMEWORK AND/OR ASSIGNMENTS

          This is expected to be a fast-paced course and will require you to keep up with the daily work and assignments. Homework and assignments will be due at the beginning of class and should always contain your full name, date, and block in the top right corner. Assigned questions should be answered in full sentences.

 

 

TESTS AND/OR QUIZZES

          Every effort will be made to give you a one week notice for tests. Quizzes will be given frequently. As tests and quizzes make up a large percentage of your final mark, daily review of classroom work and assignments will be essential for success in this course.
