Barcelona

Our Thanksgiving break was short and sweet. Half of Thanksgiving day was spent teaching. After classes, we all got dressed for the Thanksgiving banquet. Those of us going to Barcelona ate our pumpkin pie on the road! At least we got away for a few days. Trying to see everything in such a big city in 2 1/2 days is quite a feat.....

I know this picture is sort of squashed...I didn't want it to take up the entire page!! Russ, Tracy, Kim and I all stayed in one room. It was a typical European hotel with the bathroom down the hall. We did have a sink and a shower, though. We had a balcony, too. I have to admit the balcony was the best part. We could go out at night and enjoy all the entertainment on our street. It would be an understatement to say we were in the middle of everything in that part of the city! There were street musicians and other entertainers at all hours of the day and night on that street. Tracy and I loved every minute.

Barcelona is, of course, filled with the architecture of Antonio Gaudi. We tried to visit as many of these sites as possible. Unfortunately, I didn't use my digital camera for all the pictures. I did take a few at Parc Guell. Here I am with Tracy and Kim. We loved the mosaics on this wall. In fact, all the mosaics were really beautiful.

My favorite Guadi place was the Sagrada Familia. It's so incredibly huge and amazing!! Even now when I think that Gaudi designed and started construction knowing that he would never see it completed I am awed. I have no pictures of the Sagrada Familia. I took the pictures on a non-digital camera that day. We climbed all the way to the top and admired everything on the way. The seashells and doves that adorn the towers are beautiful. When my Grandmother saw the pictures of the doves, she thought at first that they were real. If you ever make it to Barcelona, I would suggest visiting the Sagrada Familia. I don't think a trip is complete otherwise.
