About MK
Biography
MK started to become interested in music at the tender age of 10. It all started when he auditioned for a part in his primary school production of The Hobbit, which the school had adapted into a musical. After auditioning, he managed to obtain the second lead role, which was fantastic, but it meant that he didn't have any solo singing parts. The lead role went to Sinead Boughey who is an extremely talented girl. They have been friends for a long time.
Sinead is pictured on the right of the photograph.
Sinead has given MK countless advice and support. She has been a tower of strength to him throughout times. Sinead is now attending the London Ballet School, training to be a proffessional Ballet dancer. She has already achieved the title of best Ballet dancer in the UK in her age group! Good luck to you Sinead!
After finishing primary school, MK developed a solid interest in music and began to write his own songs. Simple songs at first. His music lessons in school encouraged him even further, so much so that for his GCSE options he chose music. The course was extremely hard for him at first because he hadn't had much experience outside of school, despite having previously learnt to play Violin, and Piano. This did come in handy on the practical side. For the first practical exam he ever had, he performed two piano pieces. Before he did the second set of practical exams, he was encouraged to start singing by Mr Reeve, one of his music teachers. So, he took his advice and began to sing. To boost his confidence, he joined the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Chamber Choir. This helped him, confidence wise. For his second set of practical exams, he chose to sing for one of them, but still stuck to playing the piano for the other. This was to prove a good move. He scored highly in both exams. When it came to his final GCSE practical exams, he sang for both of them and achieved a high mark.
During the course, his whole class also did many performances, at primary schools, and in school as part of open evenings and concerts.
In high school, he also became lead male singer in many different groups. The first was part of a group called Tactical Garbage. They stayed together for a couple of months, but disbanded due to musical differences. Tactical Garbage reformed a number of months after the split for a second outing, but again, they disbanded this time due to lack of commitment. They then reformed a third time for a short period of time, but again disbanded due to lack of commitment. It proved to be his final outing as a singer as part of Tactical Garbage.
A year after Tactical Garbage, he formed a group with fellow musicians Amanda Hesketh, Nadine Kerr, and David Smith. This group seemed a lot stronger than Tactical Garbage, but again, they disbanded due to lack of commitment. They did reform again once more, but it was to no avail.
MK then joined together with David Smith, to form the group X Squared. This was doomed to failure, due to a conflict in musical ideas.
Then, in the year 2000, he joined forces with Mike Catton to form the group Detonate, and things were going fine for once. They both had the same ideas, and had the same musical influences. Everything went well for five months until Mike decided to quit due to lack of success. MK was devastated because things seemed to be going so well. Mike Catton has since joined forces with another person, and is currently working on material.
This was when MK decided that enough was enough. He started work on solo material, and called himself MK. After thinking about all the aspects of being a solo artist, he decided to give up. He didn't think that he could handle being alone in the music world. So for a few months, MK was non existant.
Bored with the prospect of doing nothing musically, he joined forces with David Smith again, this time calling themselves DSM, and acronym of their first and second names. This lasted a month.
Then MK decided to start going solo again, and this time it worked because here he is! He has completed his debut album 'MK' and is well on the way to finishing his follow up to 'MK' which is titled 'Wanna Get Wit Me'. He is now enjoying every minute of being a solo artist.
MK enjoys working as a solo artist, but also likes to collaborate with other local talent. Many of his friends are extrememly talented, Nadine Kerr and Amanda Hesketh are two of them, whom he hopes to write an album with. And Josephine Potts (JoPo), one of his closest friends is also a very talented singer/songwriter, and he hopes to record and write some material with her. This is something to look out for in the future.
