RESTORATION
Well, now that my driving days are numbered due to losing my license, i thought that while im off the road, i may as well sort the Escy out. Unlike the engine bay restoration that i undertook, i plan to keep the car as driveable as possible while carrying out the work. This means that i can get my dad to take me out for a spin in it when enthusiasm is low. Also, i am only going to concentrate on 1 area at a time to keep myself focus'd.
So, lets get started.....
First area: Drivers side floorpan and sill assembly.
29th July, 2003: Well, stripped the interior out so that i can asess the state of play with the floorpan and sill assembly. Had a good poke with the trusty screwdriver, and uncovered a fair amount of rot in the front half of the inner sill, and there are 3 cover patches on the front floorpan. I chipped the rest of the sound deadening material off, which revealed nice and healthy metal. I attacked the rest of the floorpan, inner sill and dodgy areas of the outer sill with the grinder to clean them up, and was releaved to find only 1 more rotten area on the outer sill, which at some point had been covered with filler-a Steve John special(www.omj624p.co.uk).So thats the state of play for now, and the first item on my shopping list is a inner sill, so that i can replace the front half of the rotten original. Will wait untill Ford Fair on Sunday incase i see one, if not i'll order one from one of the Escort Specialists as there only about 14. Next update will probably be Sunday, as i cant really do anything untill i have the inner sill Panel.
