The Escort Files - Project Tartan Blanket
After I sold my first Mk2 Escort, XVK708T, I decided that I needed (note: not 'wanted') another one ! Unfortuantely, prices of 2-door models had shot through the roof and even rotten ones were fetching good money. So I decided to seek out a good condition 4-door for less cash.
I found a silver Mk2 1.3GL (1979) on eBay, and it was claimed that it had only covered 42,000 miles and had been Ziebarted from new. It was in Hull, so I went to have a look and ended up buying it.
Not long after I got it, I found that the corner of the o/s/f floor was rotten, so had both sides welded up for £68. The guy at the garage wanted to but it off me as it was such a clean car. I have since replaced the headgasket and thermostat as it seems to be overheating a bit.

The interior is absolutely mint, with not a mark on it. It looks pretty vile in the pictures but is actually quite nice and very comfortable. Shame it doesn't come with headrests in the front though. Sometime I will get round to fitting the glovebox that I bought from a friend.

Of course, not long after I bought it, I had to start modifying the car I swore I would leave standard. First job: add some 1.5" lowering blocks to the back:
