As part of the 1994 Branch 29 Diamond Jubilee Comemmoration it
was decided to provide a Communicatins and Control caravan for
emergency use by AREC and CD. An appeal to North Shore City
Mayor Paul Titchener resulted in the allocation of the worst of the
redundant maintenance crews caravan. It was really rough and
was largely re-built using donated material. It took a lot of hard
work over several weeks by a dedicated team of volunteers directed
by Norman ZL1FON and the whole-hearted support of the CDO to
produce a caravan equiupped with HF, VHF, UHF, CB and packet
radio which was handed over to the City towards the end of the year.
It carries a 2.5 kw petrol, electric generator set, a portable cross-
band repeater, masts and antennas, and a large awning..There are
operating positions for 4 operators and 2 controllers in the caravan. It has proved it's worth in two emergencies and several training
exercises.
