Featured Tip When Playing Kasparov:

When you are ready to resign because he is about to mate you, simply put out your hand, shake your head with a disgusted look on your face and when he reaches for your hand to accept your resignation, yell out the word "Draw!!!"  Everybody will stop and look and see you are shaking Kasparov's hand just after the word Draw!

Kasparov Simul:

On Tuesday March 19th, 2002, World #1 Garry Kasparov came to Los Angeles to promote chess in schools and to dedicate the Puente Learning Center with former Mayor of Los Angeles Dick Riordon.  He gave a 6 person simul which he won 6-0.  Some of the participants in the simul were: Michael Jeffreys, FM Carsten Hanson, Daniel Berman, and Max Landaw.

Yes, it's true. After running a monthly chess tournament in Los Angeles for 10 years, the Wilshire Chess Society is closing its doors. You can read all the details as to why we are "tipping our king," along with a special photo report of the 2003 National Open in our June 2003 Newsletter, which will be our final issue.
