Scinde District Dawks - Postmarks

A study of the postmarks on Scinde Dawks is very interesting since they were also the forerunners of the postmarks on lithographic issues of 1854.

The chief post marks are classified as under

  1. A diamond of 49 dots in 7 rows of 7, the corner dots being much larger than the rest. Diagonals 22 x 19 mm

  1. A diamond of 64 dots in 8 rows of 8. Diagonals 19 x 17mm

  1. A diamond of 51 dots in 7 rows the first and last rows being of 8 dots and the rest of 7 dots. Diagonals of 22 x 19mm

  1. 7 parallel lines forming a diamond. The lines being parallel to one of the sides. Diagonals 24 and 18 mm

  1. A diamond of 81 dots, 9 rows of 9. Diagonals 26 x 20 mm

  1. A diamond of parallel lines with the number 96 inset. Diagonals 26 x 20 mm

  1. Pen cancelled with cross hatched lines in ink

  1. Kardar Type postmark - rub of a little ink on the rough surface of the brass then place it firmly on the stamp to be scored and give the wooden handle a slight turn, which will so deface the stamps as to render it impossible to be used again.
