| Things I remember from De La Salle:
I remember thinking that it was brave to make it through Std 4 (Bro Cyprian) - "You walk in boys - will leave as men!". Someone's mother chasing Cyprian, who was on his tractor mowing the soccer fields. Playing second team rugby was great, except we never won any games. The acorn fights; stingers games; the after school detentions. Carrick making toast at the back of the class. Our 'retreat' to the Vaal barrage, and breaking into the kitchen at night. Making Crow Tiger have to walk the length of the Science lab to open the door to let us into class. Singing "We will Rock you" after our opera performance, and then Bro Thomas telling us not to sing 'hooligan songs'. Many Afrikaans essays about a "Typise Transvaal Donderstorm". Learning an Irish accent. Bro Thomas and his Pyrenean Mountain dog at rugby games. Kevin Doyle and his principles. Super Sid tackling Nourse. Joe Borovsky's birthday outing into Hillbrow and Pan Burgers afterwards. The great characters in our class. |
