I went down an imaginary check-list of what all needed to be done that day:

  • Go to the library. (It was closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, and without checking my email in three days my inbox was certain to be choked with spam.)
  • Go to Banta Fulfillment. (A second-shift job there was listed online, working at a warehouse filling orders for books and software.)
  • Call Unemployment (to make sure my weekly claim went through, despite not being able to receive any of it until well after my upcoming January appeal).
  • Write my financial statement. (It's due in Houston County Court Tuesday to determine what I'll owe Kari for child support.)
  • Write a letter detailing the circumstances of our break-up and the things she did to ruin my career. (It couldn't hurt to include that if they're going to consider what she truly deserves.)
  • Call Kevin. (I'd have to call Information to first get the number for his in-laws where he was staying. I had to give him directions to get to my house for today.)
  • Clean house (a little) for Kevin's arrival.
  • Write a letter to Robin. (I'm about a month-and-a-half behind writing her. Robin's a sweetheart in North Carolina whose very cheerful voice greeted me two or three times a night from Harrah's when I worked at APAC. She asked one of my friends there about me last week.)

... A lot to accomplish in only one day, and frankly the list included a couple items I could have done the day before but for two facts; one, it was a holiday, and two, I've a penchant toward procrastination. No shit!

I donned blue jeans and a sweatshirt again and was at the library when they opened at 8:30am. My inbox wasn't as bad as I'd thought it was going to be... only 16 new items. Eleven were spam and deleted without opening. One was a typical letter from my dad, which is to say not really a letter at all but a forward of the political urban legend d'jour. One was a typical letter from my Uncle Norm, which is to say not really a letter at all but a forward of either a joke or the religious story d'jour. (Today's was a joke, the jpeg shown here.) One was from Jim, my friend from APAC who'd written last week with Robin's hello. Jim filled me in on the latest gossip from work and let me know who all was including hello's to me. One was from Match.com with my weekly list of could-be's, but with no cash at all I can't subscribe or send emails there unless a woman includes her email address with her initial contact... as Cindy did two weeks ago. Speaking of, the last email was indeed from Cindy... wishing me a merry Christmas. Last week we said we'd get together between Christmas and New Year's. Hmmmm... that's any day now!
