I've already written of these young people and what they meant to me elsewhere in this journal, but parting shots to them are also appropriate...
- To Chad, keep your very fine head on your shoulders. I can't thank you for opening the door to the after-school gang throughout the rest of my time at HHS.
- To Jackie, I hope you find contentment and happiness in everything you do. I cherish the time we spent together, and wish we could have met when you were about ten years older.
- To Adam, it was you who started the Algebra parties. The subsequent involvement of your classmates was overwhelming, and every time we met was a blast. I am so proud of you.
- To Katie, Andy, and Sam, the time you each spent in class was one thing... the time at school beyond the classroom yet another... but our time during breaks at APAC really drove home how much you cared. My guess is you already not only know how much I cared about you as well, but how great my emotional loss truly was in no longer being able to teach. The absolute best of luck to each of you. Illegitimous non carborundum.
- To Claire, what can I say? Your effort, intelligence, class, and talent are enough to make those around you jealous. Don't let it bother you. You remember the conversation with you and Sarah that was the impetus of Jones Law Number Four... Never lower your standards. I know you never will.
- Finally, to Renee... has there ever been a Teacher-student combo that drew such inspiration from each other and had such a good time doing it? I don't think so. Speaking and sharing with you was always, for me, a highlight of my every day. I wish you peace, I wish you luck, and I hope we never lose contact. Thank you again for everything, my dear young friend.
