Kari was supposed to pay me back right when she got her check, but after it was delayed I was in deep again. The four payday loans sharks now became six. As soon as I was teaching again, though, we'd be able to get by and I'd be able to pay them off once and for all. My dad talked to Kari on the phone and was quite taken by her as well. He was so happy that I was falling in love again, and he had told me how impressed he was with her and what a wonderful choice I'd made. As much as Dad loved her, Catherine loved her even more. She came to visit for her week's vacation at our house and had a wonderful time. Cathy played with Kari's cats, we went canoeing together, Cathy helped Kari making supper and treats... it was what I'd felt in July... a family. The week after Cathy went back home with her mom, Kari was feeling a familiar feeling. We went in to the doctor and we were told what we suspected... she was pregnant. Our family was about to grow. As much as I loved working for Harrah's, Kari hated it. I fully supported her feelings and encouraged her to do what she thought was best. What she thought was best was to quit, so she did. Again, the calculator came out, but I was sure we were going to make it once school started. At the end of the month, Kari was feeling another familiar feeling. We made an emergency hospital run, preparing ourselves for the worst... yet another miscarriage. As it turned out, an ultrasound was done and we each saw a tiny little heartbeat. It was Kari's first pregnancy to make it that far. |
