I had to work at 8am Sunday morning, pulling an open-to-close shift for some overtime. I walked two miles to an all-night restaurant and spent $11 on a large and filling breakfast, then walked two miles to work. I was there at 7:15. I had two hour-long breaks during the day. Over the first, Cassie and I went out to talk for a bit over coffee. Her boyfriend is in the military and is coming home for a week next week... she's very excited. Over the second, I took Ashley out to supper for a talk. Her boyfriend's home from the hospital, and this time it was time to spill my guts... telling her about what's going on in my life, including being locked out of my apartment. Supper cost $21, but it was nice to get to unload. After work Ashley took me to a motel with a vacancy light on about 3/4 of a mile from my house. However, the office was closed and from it a sign hung reading, "No clerk on duty." So, I walked another mile-and-a-half to the next hotel down the road, at a cost of $47. I slept seven straight hours (usually I can never sleep more than four), and for the first time since visiting Mom's over Independence Day weekend I enjoyed a long, hot shower. I finally got home about 11:30 this morning, called a locksmith from the laundromat downstairs, and twenty minutes and $32 later was back inside familiar surroundings, able to put on clean clothes for the first time in two days. All in all, I feel pretty stupid about the whole thing. The $32 I spent on two meals was more than what I normally spend on groceries in an entire week lately. But, on the bright side, I danced with a pretty girl for the first time in a year, made a couple new friends, and had heart-to-hearts with a couple people for whom I truly care. Plus one decent night's sleep! It was a strange weekend, but one I'm sure had some overall divine purpose. |
