Two of the three were on the baseball team. One forgot to pick up his uniform for the first game of regionals that afternoon, so we head over to his house to get it before going to Subway. We each got a sandwich and went back to school.

Minutes later, the principal came to my classroom before fourth period started and asked to speak with me. He said that Tim, the security guard, noticed me with the students and asked why we were off-campus. Not wanting my kids to get into trouble, I said I took them as a reward. During fourth period, each of the boys were individually called into the principal's office, and each told the truth... that it was their idea to invite me.

After school, the principal was pissed... both for me condoning a violation of campus policy and for me lying to him about whose idea it was. The boys were suspended from playing in the game that night, and I was suspended a day from teaching (with pay) for my infractions as well.

The baseball team won their game, by the way, and the boys were allowed to play in subsequent games before their final loss at sectionals.

The following week, though, class schedules for the following school year were posted. The schedule I'd always dreamed about was taken away, and in its place was one consisting of two sections of Algebra I, two of Geometry, and only two Algegra II's. My influence on the upperclassmen was about to be severely diminshed.
