4. Never lower your standards.

This is probably the most important of The Jones Laws, and a central theme to the graduation speech I wrote for the Holmen High School Class of 2003. So why isn't it number one? Because the laws are numbered in order of their discovery.

I don't know what other comment to make here. Never lowering one's standards applies to one's values, one's work, one's choice in the relationships he or she makes, the items one buys. You're the only you you've got, and you have to treat yourself with dignity and respect.

Anyone who ever lowers his or her standards for anything or anybody deserves to be slapped.
