1. Never get married until you are at least 25 years old. People often make the lame statement that at 18 a person is considered an adult. Yeah, right. Then why are they not allowed to drink alcohol until 21? The truth is, adolescence does not end on a person's 18th birthday. The brain is still learning and growing in this stage until, on the average, a person is 25 years old. That's when a person is an adult. That's why insurance rates don't start going down until a person turns 25. When a young person goes off to college, he or she will still do plenty of dumb things... binge drinking... experimenting with sexuality... driving too fast... blowing off responsibilities... being a kid for the last time in their lives. The decisions a young person make will often be done out of a fun kind of passion, not a reasonable or intellectual sort of passion. Most people will have done almost all the really stupid things in their lives by age 25. After that, once they've become adults, they realize the decisions they make are indeed life-lasting... the kind of decisions of which marriage should be included. Anyone getting married before they turn 25 deserves to be slapped. |
