2004 Summertime Activities

Cub Scouts who attend three or more of the summertime activities will earn the “Summertime Pin”, that will be awarded at a fall Pack meeting. For updated information, check the web site:  http://www.geocities.com/mjmmdb/ or call the contact person listed for the event.

The entire family is encouraged to attend and enjoy the activities. Since these are family activities, Pack 20 will not be providing adult supervision; therefore parents who cannot attend must make arrangements with other adults for their Scouts and the Scouts’ siblings supervision.

Cancelled June 20, Sunday: The Valles Caldera National Preserve trail scheduled for the Pack hike next Sunday has just been closed due to fire danger. The fire
restrictions have closed the majority of trails in the Los Alamos
vicinity with the exception of the trails on DOE and county land. Since
many of those are in areas which promise to be rather hot this weekend it
would be prudent to simply cancel this month's hike rather than
substitute an alternate location. If the fire restrictions are lifted by
mid-July, the McCauley hot springs trip will still be on. This trip will
require a tour permit so if you plan on going please e-mail me the make
of the vehicle you will be driving, the vehicle license number, the
drivers license number of the driver and the number of family members
attending. The plan for that hike is to start at the Jemez Falls
trailhead and walk downstream to McCauley hot springs, where we will stop
for a swim (brings suit and towels if you intend on going in - this is
not a clothing-optional spring). We will then continue downstream to
Battleship Rock, where we will have cars and our picnic lunches waiting.
We will shuttle the cars down before beginning the hike - the kids can
either play in the woods or take the short side hike to the falls while
they wait.

Sorry for the inconvenience and I hope to see many of you in July.
